Today, we’ll post a little repair work on an old Yamaha.. Assembling your own wheels can be done by anyone.. We’ll get back to Born Free postings tomorrow.. Did ya figure out who the Born Free celebrity is??
This old Yamaha had a broken rear spoke and flat tire… Here’s our fix..Start by removing the wheel. Remove the tire/tube and then remove all the old spokes… Oh, and the very 1st thing is to buy a new spoke set…
We prefer Tree Wax but J&J wax will do.. The purpose of the wax is to lube the spoke holes..It turns white as it ages and is invisible after a while..
Handful of cheese cloth is used to smear wax.. Inside and out..
Lots of wax is smeared into spoke holes…
Silver colored never seize, thinned with oil is ready to coat spoke threads..
36 new nipples and washers….
New spokes inserted into hub and taped in rough pattern.
Lacing Pattern is 2 cross… Assembled, it now will be trued up as spokes are tightened.. Remember loosen 1st when straightening..Then tighten.. Then loosen selected areas.. In a little while, rim will be running true..
Check out the exhaust on this 1934 VL………
