Comment on Brough Superior Front Fork, showing dampner…. Interesting the same type of dampner used on the 1928 Harley board tracker….Known as a Castle Fork, this type of springer was used by a number of bike manufacturers over the years…Harley riders just called ‘em “springers”… by blindmelon

Many Thanks to Professor George Hood for identifying this type of ride control and
knowing that Brough Superior used it on some of their road bikes.. The “Castle” fork
has been credited to Harley as the originators of this fork….Not really true… Ain’t
life strange? This type of dampner, as shown on the Harley board tracker used huge
bearings on the rockers….I’ll bet the designer was trying to get all the stability
he could….. Springer forks with loose rocker bearings have a tendency to allow
a deadly wobble to develop at speeds over 80 mph….

Yeah, this crap really does work….We’ve been playing with exhaust pipes, mufflers, drag
pipes ect…..for over 40 years a few things that do work…Remember, the more volume in
the pipe/s before entering a restriction/baffle or atmosphere the smaller the exit opening
can be and the engine will still develope good power and torque…That’s why a Chevy truck
with a 350 can get good power with a single 2 inch exhaust pipe….Volume in the pipe
allows the the exhaust to cool and contract the futher it travels…

Keeping the velocity up with correct sized tubing with the proper length and reversion
dams makes for excellent flow and power from the engine.

We’ve been using this method of chain lube for over 40 years and it really does work.
It keeps the chain cleaner and runs cooler…We keep trying the latest sprays and nothing
works quite as well. Also works great on open primary chains and prevents “red death”.
***NOT recommended for cross country rides….Carrying the mix, oil can and paper towels
is a pain….But, for short trips that return you home in 1000 miles or less, it’ the
bomb and guess what……your chain will last longer and the lube doesn’t make a big
mess like other lubes…

According to builder……”The frame is homemade. The idea was make a slightly customed “Brough Superior” style racer. The front end is modified from early
British Zenith. The Supercharger is AMR with S.U HS4 carb. The petrol/ oil tank
is also my homemade.”
