1929 JD……….@ Las Vegas auction..
A wee bit more on the repair of Santa Bob’s JD..Things are starting to look good..
This photo is after a few repairs but before the front wheel was done.
Already done:
Trans O/H
Wheels powder coated and new spokes
Engine bottom end rebuilt balanced and assembled
And loads of other repairs….
Saturday afternoon and just enough time/room to clean up those replated cylinders..
Ball hone will be used to clean bores prior to sizing/finishing..
Precision hone..
Cleaned and oiled…Waiting to be sized and finished with the precision hone..
Time to install the new exhaust guides in our shiny cylinders..
Making a valve guide driver..We don’t have one for JD exhausts..This is for installation (from the bottom)..Old guides are driven out with a 3/8″ rod from the top..With new guides we can cut the valve seats, then install the valves..
Resharpen the tool bit…And cool it off with a wet rag..No coolant setup on this poor little lathe…So, stop every few cuts and cool things down…Hot parts don’t cut well..
Measure the guide and valve stem..

We finally got the cylinders back from the platers..Electroless Nickle doesn’t show up well in this photo..Some valve work..Finish hone on the bores and we’ll be ready to put the JD engine together..
