Wednesdays Tech Tip: Try lubing
your old style chain with 50/50
2 stroke oil and diesel….
#1 Remove the chain and clean it
in diesel or lantern fuel…We can’t
purchase REAL mineral spirits so
use something that thins oil.
#2 Soak the chain in the 50/50
mix.
#3 Wipe the chain dry with paper
towels.
#4 Install the chain and be amazed….It works better than chain lubes and last longer. The chain will run cooler and stretch less… In 500 to 1000 miles you can repeat or just apply some 50/50 from an oil can, and then wipe dry….
****This also works well on dirt
bike chains that are old style, not
sealed chains…

We’ve been using this method of chain lube for over 40 years and it really does work.
It keeps the chain cleaner and runs cooler…We keep trying the latest sprays and nothing
works quite as well. Also works great on open primary chains and prevents “red death”.
***NOT recommended for cross country rides….Carrying the mix, oil can and paper towels
is a pain….But, for short trips that return you home in 1000 miles or less, it’ the
bomb and guess what……your chain will last longer and the lube doesn’t make a big
mess like other lubes…
